Tesla Cybertruck prices rise sharply over two years

Two years after the first Tesla Cybertruck deliveries began in 2023, the vehicle's prices have increased substantially from initial announcements. The starting price has jumped from under $40,000 to nearly $80,000, with the top model exceeding $114,000. These changes reflect evolving variants and added features.

The Tesla Cybertruck, unveiled in November 2019, generated significant buzz when Elon Musk announced a starting price of $39,900. Reservations opened that year with a $10,000 refundable deposit, but production delays pushed first deliveries to 2023.

At the 2023 delivery event, Musk outlined three variants: the single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) at $60,990, the dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) at $79,990, and the tri-motor Cyberbeast at $99,990.

In April 2025, the RWD model was rebranded as the Long Range Cybertruck with its price raised to $69,990. However, by September 2025, Tesla discontinued this version, positioning the AWD as the entry-level option at $79,990. Meanwhile, in August 2025, the Cyberbeast's price climbed to $114,990 after Tesla bundled the Luxe Package, which includes Supervised Full Self-Driving, four-year premium service, free lifetime premium connectivity, and free lifetime Supercharger access.

As of December 2025, buyers face choices between the $79,990 AWD and $114,990 Cyberbeast—far above the original under-$40,000 target.

Beyond purchase price, ownership costs add complexity. Reports from earlier in 2025 indicate Cybertruck insurance averages $1,000 more annually than typical vehicles. One Massachusetts driver saw her premiums quadruple after switching from a Model 3, and some owners have struggled to secure coverage altogether.

The production timeline underscores delays: late 2021 and 2022 targets were missed, with confirmation of 2023 start in January and the first unit assembled at Gigafactory Texas in July.
