Texas woman charged in 2002 cold case murder of husband

Lisa Honrud, 55, faces murder charges for allegedly shooting her husband Frank Weiss with a .38 revolver in 2002 and dumping his body in Lake Lewisville, weighted with sandbags. The 24-year-old cold case was solved last month through new witness information and investigative advancements, according to Frisco Police. Honrud reportedly told Weiss's daughter he had gone to Cancun.

Frisco police arrested Lisa Honrud last month in connection with the 2002 disappearance and killing of her husband, Frank Weiss. Investigators believe the couple dined together on June 2, 2002, the last time Weiss was seen alive. Honrud allegedly shot him with a .38 caliber firearm and disposed of his body in Lake Lewisville within Frisco city limits, wrapped in black bags, tied with rope, and weighted down with sandbags duct taped to his legs, per an arrest affidavit obtained by KXAS. The body was discovered two days later. Weiss had requested an annulment, which Honrud signed, and changed his life insurance beneficiary to his daughter one month prior. A key witness came forward recently, revealing they had given Honrud a .38 revolver before Weiss vanished. When confronted after learning of the murder weapon, Honrud said they had thrown it off a bridge over Joe Pool Lake, the affidavit states. The case broke open due to advancements in investigative techniques, modern technology, and new information from the witness, Frisco Police Department said. Weiss's daughter, Carla Weiss, mourned her father in a statement, calling him a wonderful man who once carried her on his shoulders for hours to ride the pink Dumbo ride. 'He deserved better than this and we deserved to have him in our life a lot longer than we did,' she said.
