AEW President Tony Khan discussed the difficulties of coordinating talent between AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling following the recent Forbidden Door event. Visa issues prevented several NJPW wrestlers from appearing on the card. Khan expressed interest in future joint tournaments while noting ongoing scheduling hurdles.
Speaking at the post-show media scrum, Khan said a combined tournament involving stars from both promotions would be appealing. "It's an interesting thought; it would certainly be something I would like to do," he stated. "The logistics would be challenging, and that's part of what makes Forbidden Door special, is getting everyone under one roof."
Khan explained that bringing NJPW talent to AEW earlier for buildup is often not feasible due to the wrestlers' commitments to their home promotion. He added that AEW faces similar constraints because it produces 52 weeks of television annually.
As an example of cross-promotion, Khan highlighted AEW wrestler Nick Wayne's participation in NJPW's Best of Super Juniors tournament. He reiterated that joint events remain a goal if the timing can be aligned.
