Fighters at UFC Freedom 250 received performance bonuses in USD1, the stablecoin from the Trump family’s World Liberty Financial venture. The mixed martial arts contest took place on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14. The $250,000 bonus pool marked a prominent commercial use of the token.
The UFC announced on June 12 that World Liberty Financial would serve as presenting partner for the bonus pool. Bonuses across seven matches were paid out in USD1 the following day.
The event coincided with President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. It formed part of White House semiquincentennial programming.
USD1’s circulating supply stands at approximately $4.6 billion. World Liberty Financial has applied for a federal banking license.
Todd Phillips of the Klaros Group said the payouts function like checks but advertise the stablecoin’s connection to the UFC and the White House.
