Ubisoft Barcelona studio launches three-day strike over June layoffs

Workers at Ubisoft Barcelona have begun a three-day strike to protest planned layoffs affecting 51 employees, despite the strong launch of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.

The strike involves around 90 employees and follows layoffs announced in June. Staff also contribute to Rainbow Six Siege, and union representatives are seeking a smaller number of cuts, improved severance terms, and guarantees against further job losses.

A statement from the CSVI union said the workers "have spoken and called for a total strike to demand their rights. Enough with the unjustified cuts!" The studio previously held a partial strike in early July, but this week's action is a full stoppage of work.

Developers have highlighted their contributions to the new Assassin's Creed title, including underwater mechanics and naval quests. One senior tester noted that while players are enjoying the game, "my whole team is being laid off, so we can't fully celebrate it."

Work is expected to resume later this week, and Ubisoft has not yet responded to the union demands.
