Valve has opened reservations for its new Steam Machine gaming PC, which will start at $1,049 for the 512GB model. The company is using a randomized system to allocate the first units due to component shortages. Shipping for selected buyers begins June 29.

The Steam Machine comes in two storage configurations. The base model with 512GB storage costs $1,049, while the 2TB version is priced at $1,349. Adding the Steam Controller increases the price by $79 for either model.

Reservations opened on June 22 and close at 10 a.m. Pacific time on June 25. Eligible Steam account holders who made a purchase before April 27 can sign up, with one entry allowed per household. Valve will randomize entries to create a reservation queue and waitlist.

Those selected will receive purchase invitations starting June 29. The system uses a custom AMD Zen 4 processor and RDNA3 graphics with 16GB of DDR5 RAM. It runs SteamOS and is designed to connect to a living room TV.

Valve cited rising component costs and supply constraints as reasons for the high price and limited initial availability. The company said the randomized process aims to make access fairer and reduce scalping.

Что говорят люди

Initial reactions on X express skepticism toward the $1,049 starting price amid component shortages, with users calling it overpriced and noting poor performance expectations for some games. Others acknowledge Valve's constraints and predict strong sales due to the Steam brand, while some view buyers as early testers for future iterations. Discussions emphasize the randomized reservation system and limited availability.
