Verisure hit by data breach at subsidiary

Security firm Verisure has suffered a cyberattack through its subsidiary Alert Alarm, leaking personal data of 35,000 customers. The company has reported the incident to police, which involves suspected extortion. Verisure's stock dropped around five percent on the exchange.

Verisure, a leading security firm, recently announced a data breach affecting its subsidiary Alert Alarm. The incident was discovered recently and involved unauthorized access to customer data stored with an external billing partner. In total, 35,000 current and former customers are impacted, with leaked personal details including names, addresses, email addresses, and personal identity numbers.

The company contacted police on October 16, 2025, initiating a preliminary investigation into serious data intrusion and extortion, led by a prosecutor. According to sources cited by Aftonbladet, the attack targeted a ransom demand. Police spokesperson Olle Älveroth confirmed: "We have initiated a preliminary investigation regarding serious data intrusion and extortion."

Verisure's communications chief Tariq Belqaid stated in a press release: "We are continuing to work with advisors and have notified the police and relevant authorities." In an email to Aftonbladet, he added: "We recently discovered unauthorized access by a third party to data related to Alert Alarm stored with an external billing partner. We will inform our Alert Alarm customers as soon as we have more information. We regret any concern this may cause."

Following the announcement, Verisure's stock fell around five percent on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. The company emphasizes its intensive efforts to investigate the incident and protect customers.
