Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka led a coordination meeting on flood response in Tuban Regency, East Java, on Friday, March 6, 2026. He stressed accelerating the recovery of public facilities and aid for affected residents, despite no fatalities. Gibran also urged anticipation of post-flood diseases and long-term infrastructure improvements.

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka led a coordination meeting (rakor) on flood handling at the office of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk in Tuban Regency, East Java Province, on Friday, March 6, 2026. Although the floods that struck the area on Monday, March 2, 2026, due to heavy rain caused no fatalities, the material losses suffered by residents were a primary concern for the government.

Gibran emphasized the swift recovery of public facilities such as schools and places of worship to restore normal community activities. "Public facilities affected, like schools and places of worship, must be functionalized again as soon as possible," he said through a press release from the Vice Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.

He also ordered repairs to the Ngino-Sambongrejo connecting road damaged by the flood, including improvements to the surrounding drainage system to support resident mobility and logistics distribution. Additionally, Gibran called for accelerating the data collection on damaged residents' homes so aid can be disbursed quickly and cleaning processes assisted. "Homes of residents that experienced damage should have their data collection completed immediately, aid disbursed, and cleaning processes assisted," he stated.

To prevent further impacts, Gibran reminded local governments to anticipate the spread of diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis, and dengue fever (DBD), given the ongoing potential for extreme weather until the end of March 2026 according to data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). "Based on BMKG, we will still be hit by extreme weather until March. Therefore, we must always be prepared and vigilant," he said.

In the long term, he stressed improving drainage management and river normalization, including routine dredging of shallowing rivers, to prevent recurring floods. The floods inundated at least six sub-districts, including Semanding, Plumpang, Merakurak, and Tuban City, with water levels exceeding half a meter.

The meeting was attended by East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Tuban Regent Aditya Halindra Faridzky, President Director of PT Semen Indonesia Indrieffouny Indra, as well as other related officials such as Acting Vice Presidential Secretary Al Muktabar and disaster agency representatives.
