A woman in her 60s died after her car crashed into a roadside tree and then a hagwon bus while driving on the wrong side of the road in western Seoul. The bus driver and a teacher were injured, along with four pedestrians who sustained minor injuries. No students were on the bus at the time.
On December 19 at 3:25 p.m., a woman in her 60s crashed her car into a roadside tree and subsequently into a bus operated by a private education institution at an intersection in Yeongdeungpo Ward, western Seoul, while driving on the wrong side of the road, police said. The driver was killed in the incident, but no students were aboard the bus, averting greater tragedy.
The bus driver and a teacher inside were injured, and four pedestrians suffered minor injuries, bringing the total number of injured to six. Investigators plan to determine the cause by analyzing security cameras in the area and black boxes from nearby vehicles. They have also requested a forensic examination of the crashed vehicle and an autopsy of the deceased driver.
The Yeongdeungpo police are conducting further inquiries into the driver's condition and road circumstances. This accident highlights ongoing concerns about traffic safety in Seoul's busy districts.
