Arijit Singh explains multiple reasons for quitting playback singing

Renowned singer Arijit Singh has announced his retirement from playback singing. He revealed on social media that there are multiple reasons behind the decision, not just one. He will complete existing commitments and continue creating music.

On January 28, 2026, Arijit Singh shared a post on his private X (formerly Twitter) account and Instagram, announcing his retirement from playback singing. He wrote, 'Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for the love you've given me over the years. You've loved me as a listener so much. I happily announce that I will not take any new assignments as a playback vocalist. I'm ending it. It has been a fantastic journey.'

Elaborating on the reasons, Singh stated, 'There isn't just one reason behind this; there are multiple reasons, and I've been trying to do this for a long time. Finally, I mustered the courage. One simple reason is that I get bored quickly. That's why I perform the same songs on stage with different arrangements. The point is, I've gotten bored. I need to do different music to live. Another reason is that I want to get real motivation from seeing a new singer emerge.'

Singh clarified that he is not quitting music altogether. He will continue live shows, concerts, and independent music production. Some pending projects will release this year. The song 'Matribhumi' from Salman Khan's film 'Battle of Galwan' has become his last playback track. The announcement has stunned fans and the industry, but Singh's future points toward new musical explorations.
