Bidirectional traffic restored at kilometer 18 on Bogotá-Villavicencio highway

The Ministry of Transport announced that starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, bidirectional traffic will be enabled on both lanes at kilometer 18 of the Vía al Llano. This follows the removal of landslide material and aims to improve mobility on this strategic route. Minister María Fernanda Rojas emphasized that it restores confidence in the highway and ensures safer operations.

On Saturday, November 15, the Ministry of Transport announced that starting at 5 p.m., bidirectional traffic will be restored on both lanes at kilometer 18 of the Bogotá-Villavicencio highway, known as Vía al Llano. This enabling of the two lanes follows progress in removing material accumulated from a landslide, which has already been relocated to a safe place, according to the acting director of the National Institute of Roads (Invías), John González.

Transport Minister María Fernanda Rojas celebrated the achievement: “Today we fulfill our commitment to Meta and to the country. Enabling the two lanes at kilometer 18 restores confidence in this strategic highway and allows us to guarantee safer, more stable operations with better travel times. We continue working tirelessly so that mobility in the Llanos has definitive solutions, not just emergency ones”.

Among the measures implemented by Invías are the installation of horizontal drains to evacuate accumulated water, as well as a pavement structure to ensure traffic safety. The entity plans to continue with slope work, hydraulic projects, marking, signage, and installation of safety devices to maintain stable and monitored operations.

For passage through the area, recommendations include a maximum speed of 30 km/h, no overtaking, and respect for bidirectional traffic in one lane per direction. At 1 p.m., concessionaire Coviandina reported normal traffic despite high vehicle flow and dry weather. Additionally, restrictions for cargo vehicles remain in place over the weekend, such as no circulation on Friday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the holiday Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
