Businessman David Kipsang Keter has won the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) parliamentary nomination for Emurua Dikirr constituency in polls held on March 27. He secured 13,759 votes against 13,394 for Bernard Kipkoech Ng'eno, the late MP's former personal assistant. The process faced accusations of bribery, repeat voting, and proxy voting in some polling stations.
Businessman David Kipsang Keter, who had failed three times to unseat the late MP Johana Ng’eno, has secured the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nomination for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat. The nominations took place across 96 polling stations on Friday, March 27, 2026, with results announced that night.
Keter received 13,759 votes, defeating Bernard Kipkoech Ng'eno, the former MP's personal assistant, who got 13,394 votes. The exercise drew accusations of bribery, repeat voting, and voting by proxy at some of the polling stations.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen congratulated Keter on X: “Hearty congratulations to David Keter on winning the hotly contested UDA nomination for Emurua Dikirr Constituency. Your patience, persistence, and resilience have finally paid off.” He also commended Ng’eno: “To Bernard Ng’eno, who came a close second, well done for putting up a spirited fight. You have demonstrated great strength and sportsmanship, and you undoubtedly have a bright future ahead.”
UDA National Election Board Vice Chairperson Veronica Chebet, who supervised tallying at Emurua Dikirr Secondary School hall, confirmed the outcome: “The voting process has been smooth, free of any ugly incidences. The tallying is complete, and the winner has emerged as Mr Keter as per the wishes of the voters.”
Electoral and Nominations Disputes Resolutions Committee Chairperson Adrian Kamotho urged aggrieved parties to file disputes within 24 hours. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has scheduled the by-election for May 14, with 44,447 registered voters.
The vacancy arose from the death of MP Johana Ng'eno in a helicopter crash at Chepkiyep village in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, on February 28, 2026.
