Delhi's air quality slips to very poor with AQI at 384

Delhi's air quality remained in the very poor category on Friday, with the overall AQI rising to 384 and multiple stations recording severe levels above 400. The pollution is expected to persist over the coming week, affecting the National Capital Region. In Mumbai, air quality also worsened, prompting enforcement actions.

Delhi's air quality continued its downward trend on Friday, November 28, 2025, settling at an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 384, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This marked the 14th consecutive day in the very poor category, up from 377 on Thursday, 327 on Wednesday, 352 on Tuesday, and 382 on Monday.

Several monitoring stations across the city crossed into the severe range, with AQI levels exceeding 400. These included Anand Vihar at 411, Bawana at 414, Chandni Chowk at 407, Narela at 407, JLN Stadium at 401, Burari at 402, Ashok Vihar at 417, and Aya Nagar at 402. Other stations reported high very poor levels, such as ITO at 396, Alipur at 355, IGI Airport at 360, and Najafgarh at 361.

An earlier report indicated that 19 out of 39 stations recorded severe pollution, aligning with the spike observed later in the day. In the National Capital Region, Noida's AQI fell into the severe category, while Greater Noida stood at 380, Ghaziabad at 351, and Gurugram at 318, all in the very poor range.

The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi forecasts that conditions will remain very poor over the coming week. The India Meteorological Department predicted mist, with maximum and minimum temperatures around 24 and 9 degrees Celsius, respectively.

CPCB standards classify AQI from 301-400 as very poor and 401-500 as severe. Doctors have urged regular screening for pollution-related health issues, particularly for vulnerable groups like children, asthma patients, and those with cardiac or respiratory conditions.

Meanwhile, Mumbai's AQI reached 197 on Saturday morning. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued stop-work notices to 53 construction sites and mandated strict adherence to air pollution guidelines, including continuous AQI monitoring sensors.
