Farmers' front asks Segob to halt investigations against corn growers

The National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside asked the Secretariat of Government to deactivate investigations against corn growers from Guanajuato and other states for railway blockades. They threaten mobilizations starting November 24 if no response is received. They plan actions in various states and Mexico City.

Members of the National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside met with Secretariat of Government (Segob) officials to request intervention and deactivation of investigation files against corn growers from Guanajuato and other states. These farmers received summons from the Attorney General's Office for blocking railway tracks in recent protests.

Heraclio Rodríguez, former Morena deputy and front member, stated after the meeting that if this demand and others like reviewing the National Waters Law or field supports are not addressed, they will start mobilizations on November 24. These will include closures of border crossings with the United States, as well as actions in states like Guanajuato, Michoacán, and Jalisco, plus protests in Mexico City.

The farmers demand a dialogue table to build a new agricultural model independent of government subsidies and to voice concerns about the new National Waters Law. They announced a press conference this Tuesday in Mexico City's Zócalo to detail their action plan and plan to block the Secretariat of Agriculture facilities.

The front has held prior meetings with authorities and warns it will escalate mobilizations if the government does not respond, adding to past protests by corn producers in the mentioned states.
