Flag falls and air parade canceled at armed forces day in Vigo

Spain's Armed Forces Day parade in Vigo faced two setbacks on Saturday: the national flag fell during the raising ceremony and the air parade was canceled due to fog.

King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia and Princess Leonor presided over the event at avenida de Samil. Leonor wore her new parachutist badge after completing military parachute training.

The national flag fell as a Royal Guard unit tried to raise it on the mast. The rope detached and soldiers caught it before it touched the ground. The king ordered the Royal Guard flag to preside over the rest of the parade.

The Parachute Acrobatic Patrol and flyovers by fighters, transport planes and helicopters were canceled due to low visibility. The motorized and foot parades proceeded with 3,746 troops and 109 vehicles.

The king laid a laurel wreath in memory of the two soldiers who died in 2025. President Pedro Sánchez congratulated the armed forces on social media.
