The Nosintu Gwebindlala Foundation assists residents in Elliotdale with obtaining birth certificates and IDs. Founded in 2022, it addresses generational barriers to documentation in remote areas.
The foundation operates from the Xhora Mouth Administrative Area on the Wild Coast. It handles around 500 cases annually with an 80 percent success rate.
Nosintu Gwebindlala, the founder, works with families facing complex issues such as missing records across generations. Distance to Home Affairs offices, lack of local clinics, and high unemployment add to the challenges.
One resident, Ntombekhaya Mduva, received help in 2023 after years of failed attempts dating back to 1994. She now holds an ID and has registered her children for grants.
Gwebindlala said the foundation walks each case through to completion by building ties with officials and covering transport costs.
