France won its opening 2026 World Cup match against Senegal 3-1 on Tuesday in East Rutherford. Kylian Mbappé scored twice to become the national team’s all-time leading scorer.
Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the 66th minute from a Michael Olise pass and sealed the win with a strike in the 90th+6 minute. Bradley Barcola doubled the lead in the 82nd minute from an Adrien Rabiot pass. Ibrahim Mbaye pulled one back for Senegal in the 90th+5 minute.
France dominated the second half after a difficult first period with only one shot and 66 turnovers. Didier Deschamps praised his team’s response and Olise’s decisive contribution.
Mbappé now has 58 international goals, surpassing Olivier Giroud. France faces Iraq on June 22 in Philadelphia.
