Fuoye appoints professor Ogunwole as new vice-chancellor

The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti has named Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole as its new vice-chancellor. Ogunwole, a professor of soil ecosystem, will take over from Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina on February 11, 2026. The appointment followed a digitalised selection process, as announced in Abuja.

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) announced the appointment of Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole as its fifth substantive vice-chancellor. Ogunwole, currently serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Strategic Partnership, Research, Innovation and Linkages, succeeds Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, whose tenure ends on February 10, 2026. The new vice-chancellor's term begins the following day, February 11, 2026.

Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, revealed the decision during a press conference on Thursday at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) headquarters in Abuja. He emphasised that the process adhered to due diligence, stating, “The process was fully digitalised. The applications were launched online, and the assessments were done by the system. However, to ensure transparency and accuracy, we still carried out a manual review.”

Ndoma-Egba defended holding the council meeting outside the university, noting no law prohibits it. He urged all applicants to support Ogunwole in advancing the institution and praised Fasina for significant infrastructure achievements, saying he "towers above his predecessors."

This appointment comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen FUOYE, a federal institution in Ekiti State focused on academic excellence.
