In a column to appear in La Tribune Dimanche, Gabriel Attal commits to blocking a clash between the Rassemblement National and La France Insoumise in the 2027 presidential election.
The former prime minister and presidential candidate, who announced his bid on 22 May, denounces a “pacte nationalo-insoumis”. He labels Jean-Luc Mélenchon the “nouveau Trump français” and criticises RN leaders Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen for their “habits poutiniens”.
Attal states the country would not recover from a runoff between the extremes. He promises: “I will do everything, with all my strength, to avoid it”.
The head of Renaissance calls for a broader alliance than the right and centre. He says he has “no fear of any debate” with other central bloc figures, including Édouard Philippe.
