Government officializes Patricio Dussaillant as TVN board president

The Chilean government officialized on Thursday the appointment of Patricio Dussaillant Balbontín as the new president of the board of directors of public broadcaster TVN, a role he will assume on Saturday, April 11. He replaces socialist politician Jaime Gazmuri, who led the station for just six months.

Patricio Dussaillant, a lawyer and communications expert, has known President José Antonio Kast for over 40 years from the Law School at Universidad Católica. He holds a doctorate in Public Communication from Universidad de Navarra in Spain and a PADE from ESE at Universidad de los Andes.

Throughout his career, he has taught subjects including strategic communication, environmental analysis, political communication, and public opinion at Universidad Católica for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Dussaillant takes over amid challenges for TVN, tasked with addressing current issues and strengthening its role as a national and international broadcaster. Sources close to the matter say he has conveyed in recent weeks President Kast's intention to maintain TVN's operations, even though Kast gave no concrete answers on its future during the campaign.

The appointment was first reported by La Tercera and officialized by the government on Thursday afternoon.

The Partido Nacional Libertario (PNL) has decided not to join the government of president-elect José Antonio Kast, citing that the chosen political design limits their influence in key programmatic areas. Johannes Kaiser, the party's leader, voiced support for security and economic policies but warned they will raise their voice against misguided advances. The party will adopt a stance of independence and oversight from Congress.
