Gunpowder controls reinforced in Huila to protect children

Colombia's National Police have stepped up preventive measures in Huila to prevent gunpowder-related injuries among children and adolescents during the December season. In coordination with family welfare entities, an anti-gunpowder squad was deployed, leading to seizures and fines in several municipalities.

During the December holiday season, the Huila Police Department's Protection and Special Services Section activated an anti-gunpowder squad in partnership with the National Family Welfare System. The primary goal is to prevent the carrying, use, manufacturing, storage, sale, and distribution of gunpowder, pyrotechnic items, and fireworks, with a focus on safeguarding children and adolescents.

Registration and control operations were conducted in the municipalities of Pitalito, Timaná, and La Plata. As a result, 32 kilograms of gunpowder were seized, valued at approximately 5.2 million pesos. The confiscated items include cakes, rockets, flyers, bengalas, volcanoes, machine guns, totes, candles, and sparklers, all posing significant risks to the community, especially minors.

Additionally, 19 fines were issued for violations of regulations on gunpowder handling and trade. The National Police reaffirm their commitment to child and adolescent protection, urging Huila residents to celebrate festivities responsibly, prioritizing safe environments free from these hazardous materials.
