The Hong Kong Observatory predicts minimum temperatures of 8 degrees Celsius in Lantau and Sai Kung on Sunday morning, as a northeast monsoon affects the Guangdong coast with cloud cover.
The Hong Kong Observatory announced on Saturday that temperatures on Hong Kong’s Lantau Island and in some rural areas could reach as low as 8 degrees Celsius (46.4 Fahrenheit) on Sunday morning.
Specifically, minimum temperatures in Lantau and Sai Kung are likely to sit at 8 degrees, while Ta Kwu Ling could see just a degree higher at 9 degrees.
Sunday is expected to start with urban areas as low as about 13 degrees, accompanied by one or two patches of light rain, before becoming drier with sunny spells later.
For Saturday afternoon, temperatures over much of the city would be “5 to 7 degrees lower than on Friday”.
“The northeast monsoon is affecting the coast of Guangdong, and a band of clouds is covering the region,” the forecaster said. This cold snap is set to bring brief chilly conditions, easing by Sunday afternoon.
