Hyundai marks 40 years in Chile with Gildemeister

Gerardo Carmona, vice president of Hyundai for Central and South America, noted that the energy transition varies across each regional market.

Hyundai marks four decades of presence in Chile alongside its partner Gildemeister. The brand arrived in the country in a context different from today, now shaped by competition from Chinese manufacturers and more informed consumers.

Carmona stated that the region no longer behaves as a single market. “The energy transition will be different depending on each country”, he explained, citing factors such as charging infrastructure, regulation and energy prices.

Chile stands out as a key market for introducing new technologies. The executive described it as “a laboratory to introduce products and measure trends”.

Chinese competition, according to Carmona, forces improvement. “Competition always forces us to improve”, he said, and benefits the end consumer.
