JICA urges Ethiopia to expand priority development areas

Ethiopia's Finance Minister Ahmed Shide met JICA President Naoki Ando on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington DC. JICA called for Ethiopia to expand its priority development areas, particularly in aviation, power generation, and road infrastructure.

Addis Ababa, Miyazya 12, 2018 (FMC) - Ethiopia's Finance Minister Ahmed Shide held talks with JICA President Naoki Ando on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington DC.

Mr. Shide highlighted the long-standing partnership between Ethiopia and Japan. He praised JICA's contributions in basic development, agriculture, health, and education sectors. The minister noted Ethiopia's economic reform agenda has shown resilience amid global challenges.

JICA requested Ethiopia to strengthen support in priority areas such as aviation, power generation, and road infrastructure. It also called for enhancing aviation asset management capacity and active engagement in green development initiatives.

President Naoki Ando affirmed JICA's commitment to bolstering Ethiopia's development agenda. He stated the agency would enhance cooperation on priority shared issues.
