Kenya wins four medals on first day of African wrestling championships

Kenya's wrestling team performed strongly on the opening day of the African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt, on Monday, securing one silver and three bronze medals. KAWA Secretary General Eric Walucho praised the team. He said the achievements demonstrate progress in wrestling in Kenya. He also commended Galfin Wangila for his strong performance in the Greco-Roman 60kg category, stating: “He did very well, congratulations.”

Athletes like Nakhumicha and Lichuma showed consistency by competing in the same weight classes as last year. Shaline Joy moved up from 45kg to 49kg and performed well, while Sophia Nancy earned her first African Championships medal.

Other Kenyans scheduled to compete include Janet Ingwesi in 69kg cadets women's, and men Calvin Nyatuka (65kg), Clinton Omari (51kg), Vincent Waweru (70kg), and Dan Kegode (60kg). Kenya aims to win more medals as the event progresses.
