Kim sends birthday message and flowers to Xi

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a congratulatory message and flower basket to Chinese President Xi Jinping on his 73rd birthday.

The message was delivered on June 15 through North Korea's ambassador to China. In it, Kim wished Xi good health and greater success in leading the cause of socialist construction in China.

A ribbon on the flower basket read, "I warmly congratulate Comrade General Secretary Xi Jinping on your birthday," according to the Korean Central News Agency.

The gesture came after Xi's two-day state visit to Pyongyang the previous week. During that visit the leaders agreed to deepen cooperation in politics, economy and culture while pledging stronger high-level communication.
