Pope León XIV addressed half a million young people at a vigil in Madrid's Plaza de Lima last night, urging them to be human and ignite a new humanity amid indifference.
The prayer vigil brought together tens of thousands of young people on the Castellana, with performances by artists such as Siloé, Depol and Antonio José. The pontiff arrived by popemobile around eight thirty in the evening and heard testimonies of faith before speaking. León XIV asked attendees to remain silent to hear God and reject ideologies that deceive. 'Before the void of indifference and conformism, be yourselves the spark of a new humanity,' he declared. He also recalled his missionary time in Peru and cited saints such as John Chrysostom and Toribio de Mogrovejo. Cardinal José Cobo welcomed the pope and highlighted the thirst for Christ among the youth. The night included the rosary and ended with an atmosphere of joy and hope, as attendees chanted 'This is the pope's youth'.
