Lexus driver dies after tree falls on car in Pondok Indah

A Toyota Lexus driver died after a falling tree crushed his car in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, on Sunday afternoon amid heavy rain and strong winds. The victim was a 50-year-old man. Officials have evacuated the body and cleared the site.

The tragic incident occurred on Jalan Metro Pondok Indah Raya in Pondok Pinang subdistrict, South Jakarta, around 2:00 p.m. WIB. A falling tree struck a Toyota Lexus car driven by a 50-year-old man, causing his death at the scene.

"The victim was a 50-year-old man who died," said Head of the Data and Information Center (Kapusdatin) of the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Mohamad Yohan, in Jakarta on Sunday. He suspected the tree fell due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in the area.

Officials from various agencies responded promptly. Yohan stated that the evacuation of the victim and the tree blocking the road had been completed. "Damage estimates are still being assessed by officials. The handling was managed by Disgulkarmat, P2B BPBD, Distamhut, PPSU, Satpol PP, Koramil, and Polsek," he added.

This event highlights the risks of extreme weather during the rainy season, where trees are prone to falling and endangering road users. Currently, material damage estimates are being processed by relevant officials.
