Monterrey mayor participates in wrestling event

Adrián de la Garza, mayor of Monterrey, took part in a wrestling match during a community event in the Martínez neighborhood. He faced off against 'Los Rudos' on an improvised ring as part of the 'Barrio de Mi Corazón' program. The video of the event garnered thousands of views on social media.

Adrián de la Garza, mayor of Monterrey, Nuevo León, set aside his usual duties to step into the ring during a brigade of the 'Barrio de Mi Corazón' program in the Martínez neighborhood. The event, organized by the municipal government, featured a wrestling show where the mayor accepted a challenge from the rudos wrestlers Desafío and Médico Asesino Jr.

In a video shared on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, the wrestlers shouted 'We are the Law' from the ring. De la Garza replied: 'I can take both of you,' climbing onto the stage despite attempts by his wife, Gaby Oyervides, and the referee 'El Tracaloso' to stop him.

Once in the ring, the mayor was grabbed by one of the rudos but dodged a blow and countered with two punches. He then climbed the ropes and performed a plancha onto his opponents. With assistance from the técnicos 'El Átomo' —with tattoos, gray pants, and black boots— and 'El Difunto,' the three-count was completed, raising the mayor's hand in victory.

De la Garza captioned the video: 'In Monterrey, he who does it pays for it,' which garnered thousands of views. This episode comes amid recent controversy over a multimillion-dollar contract with Next Energy, whose owner is detained for fraud. The dispute involves accusations between de la Garza, from the PRI-PAN-PRD alliance, and Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas, from Movimiento Ciudadano and former Monterrey mayor.
