A 28-year-old African man holding a Hong Kong identity card allegedly killed his 35-year-old girlfriend and fled to mainland China via a land crossing in the afternoon of December 29. Her body was discovered hidden in the storage compartment of a bed in his flat at Hei Wah House, Ngau Tau Kok.

Hong Kong police alerted mainland authorities for assistance after their investigations revealed the suspect's departure. Superintendent Wong Yick-lung of the East Kowloon regional crime unit said on Saturday: “Several days ago, we were notified that the suspect had been caught by the relevant mainland law enforcement agency. The man was handed over to us at the Shenzhen Bay checkpoint on Friday. We immediately took custody of him in connection with the murder case.”

The suspect was arrested by Hong Kong police on Friday and is expected to face murder charges. The incident, occurring in a public housing estate, highlights the effectiveness of cross-border law enforcement cooperation. Further details on the victim's identity remain undisclosed as investigations continue.
