Nasarawa governor presents N517.5 billion 2026 budget

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has submitted a N517.5 billion budget proposal for 2026 to the state assembly. The budget, themed 'Budget of Strategic Consolidation,' emphasizes infrastructure, job creation, and improved services in health and education. Speaker Dr. Danladi Jatau pledged swift approval to support state development.

On Wednesday, in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi Sule presented the 2026 fiscal year appropriation bill to the State House of Assembly. The proposal totals N517,539,050,910.77 and is designed to build on ongoing development efforts.

The governor highlighted the budget's focus on consolidating infrastructure projects for better connectivity and economic growth. It also aims to boost job creation via industrialization, support for small and medium enterprises, and enhanced agricultural productivity. Additional priorities include accessible healthcare and education, urban renewal, and environmental management.

Breaking down the expenditures, recurrent costs amount to N212,789,330,249.07, or 41.12 percent, while capital spending reaches N304,749,720,661.70, comprising 58.88 percent. This shift underscores the administration's emphasis on capital investments.

Sector allocations include N108.70 billion for administration, N221.84 billion for the economy, N16.09 billion for law and justice, and N170.92 billion for social services. Key sub-sectors feature infrastructure at N157.80 billion (30.49 percent), education at N92.91 billion (7.95 percent), health at N37.19 billion (7.19 percent), and agriculture and water resources at N31.85 billion (6.15 percent).

Governor Sule noted the establishment of six strategic agencies to drive modernization and growth, including the Nasarawa State Fire & Rescue Service Agency, Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund (NASETFund), Institute of Leather & Science Technology in Doma, and Nasarawa State Multi-Door Court House (NSMDC).

Receiving the document, Speaker Dr. Danladi Jatau assured effective collaboration for quick passage. "This 2026 Appropriation Bill will receive the diligent and timely attention it deserves," he said, urging ministries to comply with provisions and calling for unity among residents to support the governor's vision.
