National museum raises ticket prices for collection maintenance

The National Museum of Indonesia has raised adult entry ticket prices from Rp25,000 to Rp50.000 starting January 1, 2026. The increase aims to enhance collection maintenance to international standards. This decision by the Ministry of Culture supports the preservation of Indonesia's cultural heritage.

Jakarta - Indira Estiyanti Nurjadin, Head of the Museum and Cultural Heritage, explained that the increase in entry ticket prices to the National Museum of Indonesia in Central Jakarta is aimed at strengthening efforts to maintain and preserve the museum's collections.

The decision takes effect on January 1, 2026, with the new adult rate at Rp50,000, up from Rp25,000. According to Indira, the tariff adjustment is necessary to keep the collections up to international preservation standards.

"The tariff adjustment is made so that the National Museum of Indonesia and its collections can continue to be maintained according to international preservation standards and remain a comfortable and meaningful space for the public," she said when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday (January 5, 2026).

The museum managers are responsible for preserving Indonesia's archaeological, historical, ethnographic, and numismatic heritage. Funding comes from the government, philanthropy, and ticket sales to support maintenance and public services.

The Ministry of Culture, as the overseeing body, has approved the tariff increase starting in 2026. However, special policies remain in place for people with disabilities, those over 60 years old, and holders of KIP and KIP Kuliah, who receive free or discounted access.

Additionally, the museum has recently repatriated the 'Java Man' fossil from the Netherlands and plans a special immersive exhibition in the first semester of 2026 to showcase it interactively. In the long term, renovations of six exhibition rooms damaged in the 2023 fire will continue with support from the government, private sector, and public.

The National Museum also provides supporting facilities such as gardens, a mosque, cafeteria, and hall for visitors.
