Passerby shot in Santiago's city center during altercation between two people

A passerby was wounded by a gunshot in downtown Santiago on Saturday afternoon during an altercation between two individuals. The incident took place at the intersection of Eleuterio Ramírez and San Isidro streets around 4:30 p.m. The victim, injured in the left thigh, is out of vital danger after receiving medical treatment.

Carabineros is investigating an armed incident that occurred on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Eleuterio Ramírez and San Isidro streets in downtown Santiago, leaving a passerby wounded by a gunshot. According to Commander Mauricio Meneses of the Santiago Central Prefecture, the events took place around 4:30 p.m.

The police official stated that, based on preliminary information, “there was an altercation between two people that ended with a shot, which struck this passerby who was walking in the area, injuring him in his left thigh.” The injured man was attended to by SAMU personnel and transferred to the former Posta Central, where he remains out of vital danger.

The Public Ministry has ordered various procedures at the scene. “There is ballistic evidence and witness canvassing and review of local cameras will be carried out,” the officer added. So far, no arrests have been reported, nor further details on those involved in the initial altercation, but authorities continue to gather information to clarify the case.
