Prabowo asks officials to avoid lavish Eid open houses

President Prabowo Subianto has asked officials not to hold lavish open house events for Eid al-Fitr 1447 H. He stressed the need to set an example of simplicity amid natural disasters and a global crisis. However, he noted that events should still occur to keep the economy running.

During the Cabinet Plenary Session at Istana Negara in Jakarta on Friday, March 13, 2026, President Prabowo Subianto reminded all officials, including ministers and agency heads in the Kabinet Merah Putih, not to hold open house events for Eid al-Fitr 1447 H in an excessive manner. "I think we must set an example; open house or whatever, don't make it too lavish. We're in a disaster and in this atmosphere, we give an example to the people," he said.

Prabowo highlighted that communities in disaster areas still need assistance, urging officials to show empathy. "Our brothers in disaster areas and in this atmosphere, we give an example to the people," he added. However, he did not prohibit the events entirely, as they help turn the wheels of the economy. "But we also shouldn't totally close all events, because if not, our economy won't run either," he stated.

The president also cautioned the public against being swayed by narratives portraying the national economy as poor, noting that various indicators show Indonesia's economy remains strong. Additionally, he extended Eid travel greetings to those mudik, hoping for safe journeys. "For those who want to mudik later, I wish in advance, safe mudik and take care of yourselves at home," he said.

On the same occasion, Prabowo asked the TNI and Polri to coordinate with relevant ministries to secure the 2026 Lebaran mudik, including deploying assets like ships. He instructed the Ministry of Transportation to ensure smooth implementation of discounts for airplane tickets, trains, sea vessels, and toll roads, along with maximal services. The Ministry of Social Affairs was tasked with timely distribution of food aid to 35 million beneficiary families.
