Psol announces Manuela D’Ávila's affiliation and Senate pre-candidacy

The Socialism and Liberty Party (Psol) announced the affiliation of former deputy Manuela D’Ávila and her pre-candidacy for the Senate in Rio Grande do Sul in the 2026 elections. The event will take place on December 9 in Porto Alegre. This step ends speculation about her political future after leaving the PCdoB in 2023.

The announcement was made by Psol on Saturday, November 29, through a statement on social media. Manuela D’Ávila, affiliated with the PCdoB for over two decades, left the party in 2023 and has since worked as a communicator and writer. Her entry into Psol aims to strengthen the party's presence in Rio Grande do Sul and expand the progressive field for the 2026 Senate race, seen as one of the most competitive.

The former deputy has an extensive political career. She served as a councilor in Porto Alegre, federal deputy for two terms, and state deputy. In 2018, she ran as vice-presidential candidate on Fernando Haddad's PT ticket in the election won by Jair Bolsonaro of the PL. She also contested the Porto Alegre mayoralty three times, most recently in 2020, losing in the second round to Sebastião Mello of the MDB.

With this affiliation, Psol seeks to solidify its influence in the state and lay the groundwork for future elections, leveraging D’Ávila's national experience.
