Rand Easter Show records busiest opening in years

The Rand Easter Show opened to record crowds at Johannesburg's Expo Centre in Nasrec, marking its busiest start in years, according to CEO Adele Hartdegen. The 131st edition offers five days of family entertainment and runs until Easter Monday. It contributes to the local economy and job creation.

Rand Easter Show CEO Adele Hartdegen described the opening as the busiest in the last five editions. "This year we had such a fantastic start to the show. We’ve had our busiest start than what we’ve had in our last five editions," she said. Thousands of visitors poured in, drawn by enhanced value in ticket offerings, including free activities and higher-quality exhibitors.

The event, South Africa's largest consumer lifestyle showcase, features a major music festival, carnival rides, food stalls, shopping, and numerous activations. It creates 2,500 to 3,000 jobs during setup, the show, and breakdown, with a broader ripple effect on small businesses and the community. A dedicated Township Economy Pavilion highlights township-based entrepreneurs, creators, and innovators.

The South African Defence Force (SANDF) showcased activities, with Brigadier General Selina Rawlins emphasising its role for all. "Our main message for us is for the public and for the community to know that the Defense Force is here. We’re here to let the public know that the Defense Force is for all," she said.

Visitors expressed enjoyment, with one stating, “Everyone is having fun, we’re all here happy together.” The show supports Johannesburg's economy and job targets.
