French rapper Nekfeu, whose real name is Ken Samaras, was released on Tuesday evening after more than 48 hours in police custody on suspicion of rape, sexual assaults, and habitual violence against his ex-partner. No indictment has been issued at this stage. The artist firmly denies the allegations.

Rapper Nekfeu was arrested Monday morning in Paris and placed in police custody as part of an investigation opened in 2023 by the Paris prosecutor's office. According to Le Monde, the complaint filed by his ex-partner a year ago targets acts of rape, sexual assaults, and habitual domestic violence that allegedly occurred between 2022 and 2023. The probe, handled by the brigade for the repression of crimes against persons (BRDP), led to this extended custody until Tuesday.

Following his interrogations, Nekfeu was brought before an investigating judge, who did not file charges at this stage, allowing his release. His lawyer, Vincent Brengarth, stated: « My client is innocent and has provided all necessary elements to prove it. He is relieved to be out and determined to assert his rights. » The ex-partner has not publicly commented on the case.

Nekfeu, a member of the group 1995 and an iconic figure in French rap, had previously garnered media attention for his social engagements. This case arises amid a broader #MeToo movement in the music industry, where several artists have faced accusations of sexual violence. The investigation continues, however, and additional investigative acts may be ordered.

The artist's representatives declined to comment further, emphasizing respect for the presumption of innocence. This release without immediate proceedings leaves public opinion divided between support for Nekfeu and solidarity with potential victims.
