The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox had their Saturday night game postponed because of expected sustained rain. The contest will be rescheduled as the opener of a day-night doubleheader on August 29 at 1:05 p.m. ET.
The postponement shortened this weekend's series at Yankee Stadium to two games. Boston had won the opener on Friday by a score of 5-3. Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted that the game likely could not have started until around 10:30 p.m. if the teams had waited out the weather. The delay also meant fans missed a planned FOX broadcast featuring analysts Derek Jeter, David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez. Pitching plans shifted as a result. Lefty Ranger Suarez, originally set for Saturday, will start for the Red Sox on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET. Right-hander Cam Schlittler will take the mound for the Yankees on his regular schedule. The makeup game on August 29 will be the first of two that day. Ticket holders for the postponed game can use their stubs for the rescheduled matchup or exchange them under the Yankees' rain check policy.
