Rehabilitation of Daba small airport in Tana River advances

The rehabilitation of the Daba small airport in Tana River is progressing after the local Daba community accepted the project. Governor Dhadho Godhana met with community experts to discuss the expansion and its benefits. The initiative relies on collaboration to drive social and economic growth in the area.

Governor Dhadho Godhana of Tana River held a meeting with experts from the Daba community, youth, the County Elders Council, and county government staff to reach consensus on the rehabilitation and expansion of the Daba small airport. The discussion addressed earlier opposition from the community, which stemmed from a lack of full understanding about land allocation and misinformation.

Omar Guyo, representing the Daba community experts, issued an apology on behalf of his group for the initial resistance. He stated that they now comprehend the project's importance and are ready to participate.

Governor Godhana stressed the need for community collaboration. “We must work together as a community to advance development projects,” he said. He added that opposition should not be seen as a barrier but as an opportunity for dialogue and agreement, emphasizing that transparency builds trust and enables joint progress.

Furthermore, the governor highlighted how modern infrastructure like this airport would attract investments from government and private sectors. He urged local youth to embrace education to acquire skills for job opportunities in the project. “Youth will be the first to benefit from this rehabilitation and expansion of the airport,” Godhana stated.

The project aims to unlock social and economic opportunities in the Daba area and is now set to proceed following community approval.
