Samsung to launch Galaxy Z TriFold in Korea next week

Samsung Electronics will launch its first trifold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, in Korea on December 12. The device features a 6.5-inch cover display when folded and a 10-inch screen when fully unfolded, with Korea serving as the initial test market. Global releases are planned for China, Taiwan, Singapore, and others.

Samsung Electronics unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold at a media event in a showroom in Seoul's Seocho District on December 2. The smartphone features a trifold design with two hinges, offering a 6.5-inch cover display when folded like a bar phone and expanding to a 10-inch screen when fully unfolded. It measures 3.9 mm thick when open and 12.9 mm when closed, making it the slimmest among Samsung's foldables.

Samsung Electronics Korea Sales Head Lim Seong-taek stated, “The Galaxy Z TriFold embodies Samsung Electronics’ craftsmanship and represents a new step forward in foldable smartphones.” He added, “Its dual-folding design combines portability with a large-screen experience when fully opened, offering a more versatile and powerful mobile experience across different lifestyles.”

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, it has an inward-folding structure to protect the display and issues vibrations and alarms for abnormalities. Available only in a 512GB model priced at 3.59 million won ($2,438), it is cheaper than Huawei’s Mate XTs Ultimate Design at around $2,800. Lim noted, “Despite rising component costs such as memory, we made a bold decision and worked hard to keep the price as low as possible.”

Korea was chosen as the first launch market on December 12 because local consumers lead the foldable segment. Initial shipments are limited to about 3,000 units in Korea and 20,000 globally, positioning it as a special edition for enthusiasts rather than mass production. Head of Smartphone Product Planning Kang Min-seok said, “When determining regional release schedules, we have to consider various factors including market conditions, how quickly consumers are willing to adopt the product and how fast distribution partners can respond.”

The 5,600mAh battery is the largest in any Galaxy foldable, supporting 45W fast charging for 50% in 30 minutes. The titanium-based Armor Flex Hinge endured 200,000 fold tests, and the body uses ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer for durability. Enhanced AI features include parallel translation in the Samsung Internet app and three-way screen splitting for multitasking. The device weighs 309 grams.
