Federal deputy Sergio Mayer Bretón, from Morena, requested and was granted indefinite leave from the Chamber of Deputies starting February 17, 2026, to participate as a surprise inhabitant in the sixth season of Telemundo's 'La Casa de los Famosos'. His alternate, Luis Morales Flores, will temporarily assume the position and receive the corresponding salary. The decision has elicited mixed reactions from legislators, who stress the importance of ethics in public representation.
On February 17, 2026, the Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies approved by economic vote the indefinite leave requested by Sergio Mayer Bretón, Morena representative for the Fourth Circumscription. This allows the actor and legislator to join 'La Casa de los Famosos 6', where he was presented as a surprise inhabitant in the Water Room, alongside Laura G, Laura Zapata, Curvy Zelma, Celinee Santos, and Vanessa Arias. Mayer, who was fourth finalist in the 2023 Mexican edition with the 'Team Infierno', stated upon entering: “We came to make hell in the new House of the Famous”.
According to Article 62 of the Political Constitution of the United States of Mexico, during the leave, Mayer ceases his representative functions, and his alternate, Luis Morales Flores, takes the position and salary. Morales, an Otomi merchant from Mexico City's Central de Abasto, was one of Mayer's most vocal critics in 2024, accusing him of not representing Morena's values and ignoring key reforms like the one to the Judiciary. On social media, Morales celebrated in September 2024 an event where party members ignored Mayer, writing: “History puts everyone in their place”.
Chamber President Kenia López Rabadán confirmed that Morales has not yet taken the oath but trusted he would soon. On her X account, López Rabadán wrote: “A deputy, even on leave, remains a legislator”, and urged acting with honorability and ethics. Ricardo Monreal, Morena's coordinator, knew about the reality show invitation and supported the leave: “It was the most logical; the other option of remaining a deputy would not have been convenient”.
Mayer earns a net salary of approximately 108,916.66 pesos monthly in 2026, after budget adjustments, but will not receive it during the leave. His legislative term runs from August 2024 to August 2027, and he has presented five initiatives, three of which are pending. The reality show's production introduced a new dynamic called 'The Exile', a 48-hour punishment in an isolated cabin.
