Singer Óscar Alvarado dies after armed attack in Durango

Regional Mexican music singer Óscar Alvarado died at 34 after ten days in hospital from gunshot wounds in a Durango bar. The attack happened on January 18 during a dispute that turned violent. His brother confirmed the death on social media, expressing deep grief.

Óscar Alvarado, from Durango and known for songs like 'El Durangazo' and 'Bélico y placoso', was shot in the early hours of Sunday, January 18, at the Monterrey bar. The dispute started with a state Public Security Secretariat official, who left and returned armed, firing at the singer.

At 34, Alvarado was rushed to hospital with severe injuries and fought for life for ten days. His brother, Mayito Alvarado, shared updates on Instagram, requesting prayers hours before the death: "Family and friends, I ask for your prayers for the health and recovery of my brother Óscar Alvarado, he is still fighting to stay safe".

Soon after, he confirmed the passing: "My brother just passed away. Help me pray a lot so he finds peace and his place next to my father God. Rest in peace". In another post, he added: "I have no words to describe what I feel. I can't believe it, today you take a piece of me with you, my king. Life will never be the same for me, you went with mom. I love you and will love you forever".

The State Attorney General's Office is investigating; bar surveillance footage and electronic devices were seized. Jesús N., the involved operational undersecretary, was removed from his position by Óscar Galván Villarreal, Public Security Secretary.

Alvarado came from a musical family; he started singing at eight with his father and entered contests at 15. He signed with a label in Monterrey and launched his mezcal brand in December 2024. His latest single, 'Corrido de Armando Alvarado', was released on January 9, 2026. Funeral arrangements have not been detailed.
