After 120 minutes without a goal, Switzerland won 4-3 on penalties. Ruben Vargas converted the decisive kick.
The match took place in Vancouver. Neither team found the net during regular time or extra time.
Colombia shot first in the shootout. Quintero opened the scoring, but Kobel saved one attempt and several players missed.
Switzerland will meet Argentina, who qualified earlier in the day after a 3-2 win over Egypt.
