Soledad Fernández, director of the Tax Agency, has requested her replacement to the government, which is already seeking a successor. The change will occur soon after the end of the income tax campaign this Tuesday.
Government sources confirmed that Fernández requested her departure months ago but agreed to stay until the end of the 2025 income tax campaign, which concluded on Tuesday. The Finance Ministry denied any crisis at the top and noted that the replacement responds to the fulfillment of objectives in the 2024-2027 strategic plan.
Two other senior officials, the director of Inspection and the director of Collection, have also requested to leave their posts. The government insisted it is not a resignation but a consensual change after four years in charge.
The Popular Party linked the announcement to Fernández's summons to appear on July 13 in a commission on the Zapatero case. Internal sources cited disagreements with the Ministry and the blockage of the professional career plan since 2019 as possible reasons.
