Footballer Rafa Mir and teammate Pablo Jara appeared in the dock at Valencia's provincial court on Thursday charged with sexual assault and injuries. Prosecutors seek a 10-and-a-half-year prison term for Mir over the alleged rape of a 21-year-old woman at his Bétera chalet in 2024.
The complainant testified that she met Mir at Valencia's Mya nightclub on the night of 31 August to 1 September 2024. She told the court he inserted his fingers into her vagina without consent, first in the pool and later in a bathroom at the chalet.
Mir denied the charges and maintained that all contact was consensual. His lawyer requested acquittal and highlighted alleged contradictions between the two women's accounts.
Prosecutors also seek a three-year sentence for Pablo Jara on charges of sexual assault and minor injuries against the complainant's friend. Both players maintain their innocence.
