Uda candidate boycotts Mbeere North by-election debate

The United Democratic Alliance candidate for Mbeere North, Leo Wa Muthende, skipped a key aspirants' debate on November 23, 2025, opting instead for a youth town hall. This move came amid intense campaigning for the upcoming by-election. Seven other contenders participated in the event hosted by a local TV station.

On November 23, 2025, Leo Wa Muthende, the UDA nominee for the Mbeere North constituency by-election, chose not to attend a debate organized by a local television station. Instead, he engaged with young residents through a town hall meeting, where he outlined his development plans for the area.

During the session, Muthende also recognized the victors of the Leo Super Cup, a football tournament he sponsored on the same day. This alternative event allowed him to connect directly with supporters as the by-election approaches on November 27, 2025.

Meanwhile, the debate proceeded with seven participants, including Newton Karish of the Democratic Party, who represented the united opposition and elaborated on his policy proposals for Mbeere North. Other attendees were Lawrence Ireri Mwaniki, Albert Murimi, Isaac Murigingi, Simon Waiharo, Reuben Kamathai, and Lawrence Ireri. Notably, Duncan Mbui from Chama Cha Kazi also absent from the forum.

The contest has drawn significant attention from both UDA and the opposition, with both sides pushing hard to secure victory. Observers suggest the outcome could influence dynamics leading into the 2027 general elections. Final campaign efforts intensified on November 24, 2025, across various by-election races nationwide.
