US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will meet President Claudia Sheinbaum on Thursday to continue T-MEC review negotiations. Greer anticipated possible provisional agreements before the end of 2026, though complex issues will extend into 2027.
During a hearing before the US Senate Finance Committee, Greer said talks with Mexico and Canada are advancing swiftly. He expects some provisional arrangements by the end of this year, while matters such as rules of origin, labor provisions and environmental rules will require more time.
Greer will meet in Mexico City with Sheinbaum and Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard. The president confirmed the appointment for Thursday morning at Palacio Nacional. Topics include tariffs on steel and aluminum, the automotive industry, labor issues and agriculture.
The US official stressed that the goal is to strengthen regional integration to face competition from economies such as China. The bilateral meetings are part of the third round of negotiations.
