The match, played on Saturday (11/4) before over 35,000 fans, was delayed by rain. In the first half, Remo pressed with Alef Manga and Gabriel Taliari, but Vasco's defense, led by Robert Renan and Saldivia, held firm. Vasco controlled possession and relied on counterattacks with Rojas and David.
At the 9th minute of the second half, Thiago Mendes crossed for Andrés Gómez to finish left-footed, beating goalkeeper Marcelo Rangel. Renato Gaúcho's side managed the lead, but Marllon Borges headed the equalizer at the 40th minute for Remo.
This marks the third straight game where Vasco led but conceded late: against Coritiba (Saldivia own goal), Botafogo (overturned after David's goal), and now Remo. The exception was a 0-0 draw with Barracas Central in the Sul-Americana.
Fans took to social media to criticize Renato Gaúcho. "The initial effect of Renato Gaúcho has worn off," posted Edu70sp. "Renato Gaúcho made poor substitutions again," said Gabriel Frigini. Captain Thiago Mendes lamented: “Football is like that. When you don't score, the ball punishes. We stopped playing and let the other team grow. We have to score on clear chances because the opponent shows no mercy.”
Vasco, with 13 points, temporarily sit 11th. Remo, on 8 points, are 19th and risk dropping to last place.
