Yordan Alvarez declines 2026 Home Run Derby invitation

Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez has confirmed he will not take part in this year's Major League Baseball Home Run Derby.

Alvarez, who leads the American League with 25 home runs and tops the majors in several offensive categories, made the announcement on Sunday. "I'm still open," he said, "but not this year."

The 28-year-old has never competed in the event despite earning multiple All-Star selections. He missed most of the 2025 season due to hand and ankle injuries.

The 2026 Home Run Derby is scheduled for Monday, July 13, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Last year's winner was Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners.
