A commander and a general testify in the Audiencia Nacional on pressures on the UCO

Two Civil Guard commanders testified Tuesday before Judge Santiago Pedraz in the case over the alleged plot led by Leire Díez.

Commander Juan Manuel del Barco, secretary to the Deputy Operational Director, stated that two generals initially denied feeling pressured during internal leak investigations. According to his testimony, the same generals changed their account before Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Balas and claimed they had faced pressure from superiors in cases linked to the PSOE and the government.

General Luis Peláez, head of the Information Service, testified that on 29 April 2025 he sent an internal note warning of a campaign against the UCO because he considered the source of the information reliable. Peláez did not identify the source, citing the official secrets law.

Del Barco noted that the three reserved reports opened on the UCO contained no record that its leaders had expressed feeling pressured, contradicting statements made by generals Alfonso López Malo and Rafael Yuste on 27 May before Balas. López Malo and Yuste will testify as witnesses next Friday.
